Having an android OS phone without using any googles services is perfectly fine, you dont even have to have a google account.
Its not as convenient, but every service has 3rd party alternatives.
SShock, 2 hours agoFunny you say that when Huawei, without Google services is entirely useless for everyone. Expl… moreErmm, no.
Its unattractive to global consumers without google services, but is perfectly usable.
Seems you have little knowledge about how android actually works.
DaFink, 1 hour agoI wasn't making the case for it, merely stating I saw where the Tann Hauser from in that … moreI wish phones could be switched to either mode. With Gapps and without. And still have locked bootloader in the end. Like an official feature.

Videos doesn't reach to that area, wrong aspect ratio. If they do it means you have cropped your video out of the screen, so you are cutting big part of the video from top and bottom and that just look very weird.

Realistically, bunch of apps have no clue how to do locations and notifications and often, they depend on Google's frameworks, meaning they'll be constantly spewing errors or warnings. Or just flat out refuse to work. And don't get me started with apps that refuse to work if bootloader is unlocked, which in 99% of cases will be if you're running phone without Gapps. Because you literally can't buy one retail without it. I've been there and done all that. Only biggest masochists will be using Android phone without Gapps. The experience is that bad. Why do you think I've gone with iPhone?

I didn't want Google around, used LineageOS for a while and it was such pain in the rear to use I just dumped that idea and bought iPhone. Zero Google, zero dumb problems I had with degoogled Android phone.
SShock, 2 hours agoFunny you say that when Huawei, without Google services is entirely useless for everyone. Expl… moreI kinda get what he is saying there to be honest, it is possible to use an android without any Google services. In the case of Huawei though, it is evidently highly undesirable outside of China.
Tann Hauser, 3 hours agoAgreed. I myself consume much video content on my phone, so yah, a screen with that much dead… moreI consume quite a lot of content on my device as well, and where as I would personally (if asked Apple or any Android Manufacturer) state my preference for a small top bezel in which to house all sensors, I can quickly see past a notch or cut-out to the point where it becomes a total non issue. I certainly would take either over the compromises present in either a pop up camera or under display camera. To each their own though.

On your other points, if iOS doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you. Not gonna argue against anything you said there as we all have to find what works best for each of us.
DaFink, 7 hours agoMaybe they don't like the notch, cutout or whatever is up at the top of the screen, but t… moreLet's be honest. If Apple presents you with two phones that function the same: one without a cutout and another with a big ugly cutout, which one will you choose?
Tann Hauser, 3 hours agoNobody is dependant on google services. Android phones can be used without a single google service.Funny you say that when Huawei, without Google services is entirely useless for everyone. Explain that then?

Android phones can be used without a single google service.

I myself consume much video content on my phone, so yah, a screen with that much dead space on it, is not an option.
iOS also doesnt fit my bill. Need more versatile connectivity and more optional ecosystems availability.

Tann Hauser, 8 hours agoHypersensitive? Point is, it will sell yes, but not because people will want or enjoy the 2… moreMaybe they don't like the notch, cutout or whatever is up at the top of the screen, but that is just one small aspect of the overall design, which is itself only an aspect of the overall product and experience.

Your acting like it's the whole dam show though. Look, if such a relatively minor thing is make or break for you then by all means base your purchasing habits on it. For others though, myself included, It's not going to be a big deal. There is far more to the iPhone and iOS eco system as a whole than a single design feature I or they might not agree with.

And despite the tendency of people to describe Apple customer as 'Sheep' and other silly slurs, I happen to believe most people when spending this kind of money, are aware of 'what they are getting into'. Jeez you make it sound like they are joining a cult (another common and dopey claim that pops up on here). In reality though, this also isn't a big deal, it's just a smartphone after all.

Anonymous, 16 hours agoYou really lack common sense. Just because you don't buy a product, it doesn't mean … moreI doubt your the expert on common sense, but sure comment all you like on things you are not interested in ever owning. Maybe I'll start wasting all my own time prattling on about Xiaomi products that I couldn't give less of a dam about 🤷‍♂️
DaFink, 04 Sep 2022In all likelihood it will sell well yes. Now imagine a world that’s hyper sensitive to how lar… moreHypersensitive?

Point is, it will sell yes, but not because people will want or enjoy the 2x screen cut out "experience", but because people already owning iphones are immersed/dependant too much to iOS dependancies to be willing to change to other OS.
Apple makes "almost" sure that if you get an iphone once, you will be willing to cash out extreme for another iphone, and for Macbook too, cause of its OS microcosm dependancies.
So they make this questionably ugly unpractical iphone designs, with added new chip and a few new cam feats, and sell away.
Because they know they made themselves a dependant customer safe space.

Which is all well, its their buisness model after all.
But people should be aware what they are getting into.
And why they will probably cash out for another expensive phone, looks of which they actually dont like, but wont admit.

Contrary to what I've read so far in this comments section I'm actually quite the fan of the dual cutout. I get that it's most definitely not for everyone but I think it takes a unique approach to an issue that has faced phone manufacturers since the days before notches.
