Nicolas Cage may have stolen the Declaration of Independence in National Treasure … but he’s also stolen the hearts of many women throughout the years, including his five wives: Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, Alice Kim, Erika Koike and his current spouse, Riko Shibata, whom he has been married to since February 2021.
Though they never tied the knot, the Academy Award winner first started his family in 1990 when his then-fiancée, Christina Fulton, gave birth to Cage’s first child, Weston. Five years later, the Moonstruck actor wed for the first time when he married Arquette. The couple, who initially met in 1987 when the Escape at Dannemora star was 19, were married for six years before calling it quits in 2001. One year later, Cage exchanged vows with Lisa Marie in August 2002 on the 25th anniversary of her father’s — Elvis Presley — death. The two split four months later.
“Oftentimes when you have two people who are very strong and their own personalities and rather intense,” the Wicker Man star told Barbara Walters in 2003 about his romance with Lisa Marie. “Sometimes, I mean I’ll even use the word stubborn or not willing to compromise, sometimes you can have a hard time meshing.”
The singer, for her part, told Rolling Stone, “We’re both so dramatic and dynamic that when it was good it was unbelievably good, and when it was bad it was just a f—king bloody nightmare for everybody. It was just Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.”
Despite two failed marriages, Cage walked down the aisle for a third time when marrying Kim, who he was married to for 12 years until their 2016 divorce. Kim gave birth to the actor’s second son — their first and only child together — whom they named Kal-El, one of Superman’s monikers.
After his split from Kim, the Face/Off star went on to exchange nuptials with Koike in 2019 after one year of dating. Though their marriage lasted just four days, Cage was not deterred from the idea of holy matrimony, going on to tie the knot with Shibata two years later. The actor’s fifth wife welcomed their first child together, his third, in September 2022 — a baby girl.

“I met him and Crispin Glover in a restaurant,” the Boyhood actress told Andy Cohen in November 2018. “Crispin said, ‘I’m going to marry you,’ and Nic said, ‘No, I’m going to marry you.”

The self-proclaimed romantic asked Arquette to give him a list of things “like a quest” for him to obtain for her, so she can then marry him. She listed items she thought were impossible to procure like getting the famously reclusive author J.D. Salinger’s autograph, a Lisu tribe wedding costume, a Bob’s Big Boy statue, and a black orchid.

Arquette told the New Yorker she didn’t let Cage go on too long with his quest.

“Well, I stopped him pretty quickly, because I was supposed to marry him when he was done,” the Severance star said. “We never even had a date. I was, like, ‘OK, stop! Let’s just date maybe and not get married.’”

Though the two did tie the knot in 1995, they called it quits six years later.

As Cage described in an interview with Barbara Walters in March 2003, he met the King’s daughter at a party in 2000.
“I walk into a party not knowing who I’m going to meet and there’s this beautiful girl standing in the middle of the living room wearing this short leather skirt and this fluffy jacket, and she looks up at me with these big, beautiful, soulful eyes,” he explained. “Eyes that look like they have a sad story to tell, and I just went ‘Oh.’ I was thunderstruck.”
Fast forward two years, and the couple tied the knot in August 2002 in Hawaii — though the Wild at Heart star filed for divorce. Both Cage and Lisa Marie made comments about how their personalities ended up clashing, leading to their eventual separation.

After meeting in 2004, Cage and Kim tied the knot that same year at a private ranch north of San Francisco, welcoming son Kal-El in 2005. Though they split in 2016, the two remain on good terms, with Kim even attending her ex’s 2021 nuptials to Shibata.

Cage and the makeup artist eloped in Las Vegas in March 2019, though their romance wasn’t meant to last — they called it quits just four days later.

Cage told Flaunt Magazine in October 2021 that the couple met through mutual friends in Japan, when he was filming Sio Sono’s Prisoners of the Ghostland, in which Shibata played a small role.
While COVID was running rampant, the actor told The Kelly Clarkson Show in April 2022 that he “couldn’t wait” to see his love in person again — so he proposed via FaceTime. “We had built this beautiful momentum and I didn’t want it to stop,” he shared. “Let’s take it to the next level.”
The couple wed in February 2021 and welcomed a baby girl in September 2022.
