Pflugerville council gives initial OK to adopt new comprehensive plan – Austin American-Statesman

The Pflugerville City Council on April 12 gave initial approval for the city’s new comprehensive plan, Aspire Pflugerville 2040.
The plan sets policies and directions for the use, development and protection of land and sets goals for the social, economic and natural environment of the city. The next step is final approval on April 26 during the council’s regular meeting.
“Pflugerville thrives as a modern and charming community,” the plan’s vision statement reads. “Its diverse culture and heritage, atmosphere of inclusion, first-rate parks, vital infrastructure, employment opportunities, and entertainment options make Pflugerville a desirable place. These elements create a vibrant city with a high quality of life that fosters an environment appealing to people from all backgrounds.”
The vision statement was adopted by the council in January 2021, said Emily Barron, the city’s planning and development services director.
The updated plan includes a wellness wheel that focuses on health and safety, environmental sustainability, fiscal responsibility, economic opportunities for all, diversity and equity, and community-orientated goals.
The land use, development and growth chapter of the plan focuses on providing diversity of homeownership opportunities, developing community character and identity, and diversifying housing supply, types and location, Barron said.  The chapter also provides recommendations to promote sustainability and preserve Pflugerville’s history.
“Our team developed a plan and goals that should accommodate our neighbors as well as small businesses and major corporations,” said Andrew Crain, a member of the comprehensive plan committee. “We also set an expectation for the city to be proactive about site selection for community centered assets and programing to maintain the diverse origins of Pflugerville.”
The plan also provides a future land use map.
The city’s current comprehensive plan, Pflugerville 2030, was completed in 2010, according to city records.
